Dr. Smith was the three-time United States Ice Dancing Champion, from 1978-1980, and a member of the 1980 Olympic team. She has competed in many countries across the world for the United States. She and her partner, John Summers, were trained by the renowned coach, Ron Ludington, in Washington, Delaware. She was a captain of the U.S. Olympic Team, and became World Professional Dance Champion in 1981. |
| She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University, majoring in History. She received her Doctorate of Medicine from Northwestern Medical School and completed her residency in Psychiatry at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Mo. Dr. Smith is in the solo private practice of general and forensic psychiatry in the Central West End of St. Louis. Her office is in the CWE. She is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Washington University Medical School, and a voluntary faculty member, instructing the senior pyschiatry residents. |
| She is married to Dr. Richard Katz, a professor of PM&R/Neurology and concert pianist. They have 2 children---Rachel, 21, and Julian, 16,---with varied interests of their own. |
| She enjoys skating with her family, purely for pleasure, several times a year, at St. Louis' outdoor Shaw Park. |
