2010 Olympic Day CelebrationAs you may recall, the Official Olympic Day worldwide takes place annually on June 23 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games. The goal of Olympic Day is to promote Olympic values and participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. In 2010, the USOC would like Americans to celebrate Olympic Day in their communities between the dates of June 19 and June 26, but some dates may fall outside of this timeframe to better accommodate local community schedules and activities. There is a cap of 300 Olympic Day events nationwide, so those interested in participating will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.USOC's Olympic Day website at: http://www.teamusa.org/about-usoc/olympic-day In 2009, Olympic Day celebrations and participation in the United States soared to the most ever in the history of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) with 187 events held in 177 cities nationwide. More than 210 Olympians and Paralympians volunteered their time and energy to support these events. The USOC is extremely thankful to those athletes who participated in last year’s events and requests continued and additional support in 2010 as it looks to grow national Olympic Day Participation to 250-300 locations nationwide.
